A picture of the 51 adults and 16 children who were residents of the men's and women's shelter during the period of January 2021 - December 2021:
Age Ranges:
- 11 children under 10 years old
- 5 children between 11-18 years old
- 22 adults, 18-24 years old
- 22 adults, 25-61 years old
- 7 adults, 62 years and over
Residence prior to entry:
- 89% lived in Ladysmith prior to entry into the shelter
- 94% lived in Rusk County prior to entry into the shelter
Contributing to their homelessness:
- 77% due to a family eviction
- 23 of 51 adults had been abused
- 3 of 51 adults were evicted due to a financial eviction
- 6 of 51 adults were released from jail, 10 were released from a treatment center
- 26 of 51 adults received SSI or SSDI
- 24 of 51 adults had been diagnosed at some point in time with AODA issues
- 25 of 51 adults had been diagnosed with a mental health issue, 7 diagnosed with a major mental health issue
- 20 children either lived in the shelter or visited a parent in the shelter on a regular basis
- 13 of 51 adults were working full time, 4 part time
- 8 of 51 adults had no source of income
Upon Leaving the shelter:
- 18 of 51 adults moved into their own unsubsidized rental or with family, 16 moved into subsidized rentals
- 3 left the shelter to go to jail
- 6 left to enter long term treatment or nursing home
- 3 returned to homelessness
- 2 went to another shelter
- 2 unknown
Of interest:
- Despite our efforts, an average of 10 individuals per week are referred out of the County due to lack of space and funds
- The Lighthouse does NOT receive funding from either the County or the City
- 1/3 of our funding comes from state and federal grants, the remainder is from private donors, churches, community groups, businesses, and small grants
